SUBMERGING – Nastja Uršula Virk
Title
SUBMERGING
“If I flick my tail,
The whole world will be flooded.
If I turn onto my back,
The whole world will be lost.”
– excerpt from Faronika the Fish Bears the World, Folk Ballad
(translated by Marjetka Golež Kaučič)
Myths across history and different civilisations warn against cataclysmic floods that
mercilessly wipe out entire civilisations (save perhaps certain individuals, the chosen
ones, that will create the world anew). Submerging attempts to document a more
contemporary fall of a civilisation through mythological terms.
