The first performance on the Youth Scene, as part of the Evening Scene, which targeted teenage audience and premiered on 25 January 2003 was “Sex for Beginners”, based on the book of Jasminka Petrović. The Youth Scene, modeled on the European theatre scenes, focused on contemporary drama texts, provocative and socially engaged. The theatre opened its doors to a group of extremely talented but also highly educated artists, who transformed it into a big and creative workshop. International cooperation with cultural institutions from Denmark and Sweden is also significant. The reconstruction of the main building in Aberdareva Street was completed in late 2014. It was equipped with the modern stage mechanics and lighting. Academy of dramatic Arts Zagreb + -

The Academy of Dramatic Art of the University of Zagreb is the oldest higher education institution in the field of performing and audiovisual arts in the Republic of Croatia. Throughout its 75-year history, it has gained a unique place in artistic education and culture through its tradition and significance, making it recognized both nationally and internationally. The Academy's history dates back to the idea of establishing an acting school in Zagreb, which existed as early as the 1840s. This history extends to 1896, when the Croatian Dramatic School was founded, which is considered the pedagogical and artistic predecessor of today's Academy of Dramatic Art. Since its formal establishment as a higher education institution in 1950, the Academy has undergone numerous organizational and structural changes and is now one of the three artistic components of the University of Zagreb. The Academy is the leading higher education institution in Croatia in the fields of theater, film, and dance. The pedagogical and artistic activities of its teachers and students during their studies – and especially those of young artists after graduation – directly shape the national cultural identity. This unique position and role are both a privilege and a great responsibility – toward students, higher education, and the national cultural sector.

Beyond its core mission of artistic higher education, the Academy is dedicated to preserving cultural heritage, enriching social diversity through the creation of new artistic works and values, and promoting young artists who contribute to the development and legacy of Croatian and European culture. This mission is driven by a strong belief in the importance of fostering the sustainability and development of dramatic, dance, and audiovisual arts. The Academy achieves this through an integration of education, creation, and research, cultivating an environment that encourages the comprehensive development of student artists. For these reasons, the Academy’s work should represent and uphold standards of excellence in higher artistic education, thereby contributing to the sustainable development of dramatic, dance, and audiovisual arts in contemporary society.

The heart of the festival is the idyllic Noorderplantsoen (a city park) in Groningen, NL, where, for eleven summer days, a freely accessible festival village appears almost out of nowhere to provide a setting for theatre, dance, music, literature, aftertalks and lectures in combination with eating, drinking and social encounters.
